On August 23, VICE or Motherboard reported receiving the database from a source and quoted administrator Shawn Harkin confirming the hack and that passwords were salted and hashed twice with MD5. No exact day was disclosed, so August 1 is only a month marker.

public breach source catalogues 197,184 unique emails with dates of birth, emails, IPs, passwords, usernames, and site activity. This is not a person or active-account count. The administrator said more than half the rows were banned spam signups or never passed email verification, many others had been inactive for years, and he estimated fewer than 30,000 real people; that is not an audited population count.

The local job processed 196,659 email lines and produced 196,627 unique emails, 557 below public breach source's measure. Birth dates, IPs, passwords, usernames, and site activity are not locally searchable. A result cannot establish account ownership, real-person, spam, or inactive status, fan-forum or GTA use, other-field co-occurrence, compromise, or misuse.

Salted double-MD5 is not plaintext, although a weak password may be guessed offline.
