About This Breach

ACCRETECH America is the U.S. company of the Tokyo Seimitsu group, which produces semiconductor manufacturing equipment and precision measurement systems. The incident involved information associated with company employees and their dependents.

How Did the Incident Occur?

According to the consumer notice, ransomware affected some company systems on May 4. The parent company announced the incident on May 7, and employees were told at a May 20 town hall that employee and dependent information may have been exposed. The initial access method, attacker identity, and whether data was copied were not disclosed.

What Information Was Affected?

Depending on the person, the information may have included names, Social security numbers, driver's license or other government identification numbers, financial account numbers, healthcare payment information, and health-insurance information. The notice does not say that every field applied to every person.

How Did ACCRETECH Respond?

The company said it shut down its network and suspended use of certain systems to contain the attack. It began an investigation with outside security specialists, reported the incident to law enforcement, and offered employees reimbursement for up to 18 months of a LifeLock plan suited to their needs.

What Should Affected People Do?

Notice recipients should monitor credit reports, financial accounts, and health-insurance statements for unfamiliar activity. People whose Social Security or government identification numbers were involved may consider a credit freeze or fraud alert, and unexpected messages using the company name should be verified through a known ACCRETECH channel without following embedded links.
