About This Breach
On August 6, Animoto confirmed the access was unauthorized and user data may have been acquired; it could not establish removal from its systems or acquisition of a particular person’s data.
The external source reports 22,437,749 unique emails and local search contains 22,418,574 records, a difference of 19,175. The six classes are dates of birth, emails, gender, geographic locations, names, and salted password hashes; fields vary by person.
Complete payment-card data was stored in a separate system and was not among the accessed information. A record does not establish identity, an Animoto account or video content, a particular location, gender or age, password ownership or currentness, co-occurrence of every field, data removal, account takeover, or misuse.
A password hash is not plaintext. If the old password genuinely belonged to the person and was reused elsewhere, it should be replaced; video-share, subscription, or file-access requests should be verified through an independent official channel.
