About This Breach

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights reported 19,971 affected individuals. The Texas Attorney General entry identifies 19,885 of them as Texas residents, so the two figures represent the overall total and the state subset.

Verified Incident Timeline

After securing its email system and network, CommuniCare began an investigation with outside computer specialists. The investigation found that a limited number of emails in one employee account had been accessed without authorization. The review of those emails was completed on February 19, 2026; the public notice was dated March 6 and the Texas entry was published on March 9.

What Information May Have Been Affected?

The information varied by person but may have included first and last names together with dates of birth, health-insurance member, account and group numbers, patient account numbers, diagnosis information, clinical information, treatment or procedure information, prescription information, and provider location. The notice does not say that every field applied to every person.

How CommuniCare Responded

The organization says it secured its email system and network and worked with outside specialists to determine the scope of the event. As of the notice date, CommuniCare said it was not aware of evidence that the information had been misused or used fraudulently.

What Should Affected People Do?

Notice recipients should review health-insurance explanations of benefits, patient accounts, and prescription and treatment records for services or changes they do not recognize. Suspicious entries should be reported directly to the healthcare provider or insurer, and incident links and contact details should be verified through CommuniCare's official notice.
