About This Breach
Hong Kong's PCPD said HKGolden notified it on December 29, 2022 that personal data of a considerable number of forum members had been offered for sale on the dark web and that the regulator opened a review. Contemporaneous reporting relayed an HKGolden staff statement that relevant data had leaked on or before April 15, 2015 and that some circulating content was true and some false.
A derivative commercial catalogue claims August 2019 and 295,974 records while its own page also displays 141,240; another archive summary reports 297,924 records. The relationship between those counts and claimed email, phone, plaintext-password, username, IP, date-of-birth, and gender fields remains unreconciled without a raw dataset, schema, and field prevalence. The regulator statement does not confirm those fields, the count, or password representation.
The local searchable subset contains 295,971 email documents; passwords, usernames, phones, IPs, dates of birth, and genders were not imported. A result can establish only that an email occurs in this local subset attributed to HKGolden. It cannot establish forum membership, political or technology interests, other fields, plaintext-password status, password ownership, or misuse; the three-row source-to-index difference and alternate-email field remain unexplained.
