About This Breach

Hunter Associates is an independent wealth-management firm providing investment management and financial-planning services from offices in Pittsburgh and Salem.

How did the incident unfold?

According to the notice, the third-party provider believes the unauthorized access occurred on April 22, 2026. Hunter Associates learned of the event on April 29; on May 15, the provider completed its investigation and said it could not confirm whether Hunter Associates data was present in the affected environment.

Hunter Associates then reviewed the potentially affected files, ended its relationship with the provider and issued notices as a precaution. The firm says it has no reason to believe the information was taken or misused.

What information may have been affected?

Depending on the person, the potentially affected information included names, Social Security numbers and investment account numbers. The notice explicitly states that the information may have been present in the third-party environment and that access or copying was not confirmed.

Hunter Associates said financial accounts, investment accounts and other client accounts are stored on separate systems that were not affected by the incident.

How many people were affected?

Massachusetts' 2026 data breach report shows that 25 state residents were within the notification scope. Because this figure was not disclosed as a nationwide total, the record is presented as affecting at least 25 people.

The number of people affected could be higher if a nationwide total is later disclosed.

What should affected people do?

Notice recipients should review credit reports and investment account statements for unfamiliar transactions or inquiries. They may also wish to consider a credit freeze or fraud alert where appropriate.

Be cautious with unexpected calls or messages that cite the incident and request identity, investment-account or verification details. Independently confirm requests through contact channels on Hunter Associates' official website.
